The Fraser Valley Avalanche ringette team is pleased to announce the late addition of North Vancouver forward Melanie Thomas to their roster. Thomas, 24, has been playing the last two seasons with Espoo Ringette in Finland and was a taxi squad member of the 2007 national ringette team. Thomas, a two-time bronze medalist with Team USA in 2002-2004, has played many years in BC before a four year stint in Quebec with the NRL's Montreal Mission where she completed her Bachelor of Education at McGill University. Melanie, a hopeful for the 2010 national ringette team, has returned home to continue her teaching career and fight for a spot on Team Canada.
Coach Wakefield is excited about what Melanie will bring to the Avalanche. "We are very happy to welcome a player of Mel's calibre to our team. She has played many years at an elite level in BC and abroad, and her experience, skill and passion for the game are all traits that will have a positive impact on our team."
Thomas will hit the ice running early December in time for tough match ups in Winnipeg against the Prairie Fire and Jets. Welcome aboard Melanie!
