Over Christmas holidays, lots of young ringette players were sitting a home looking for something exciting to do. The Prairie Fire had just the answer for those players (and their haggard parents).
Keith Bodley Arena which has hosted several NRL games in the last few seasons was the site of the camp. The camp was held on December 30.
The camp was organized by age levels but targeted for younger players. The youngest were Bunnies as young as 4 and the oldest group were a scattering of Tweens. All participants received their own camp jersey. The camp was well structured as the campers alternated their activities. One group started with on ice instruction with several Prairie Fire instructors. A second group was in the gym having off-ice activities organized and led by another group of Prairie Fire leaders. When it was snack time, the campers were looked after as happened during lunch time.
When the day ended, campers were reluctant to leave and were eager to stay longer with the Prairie Fire players. The Prairie Fire received numerous emails that were brimming with positive comments.
Prairie Fire learned some things from the camp. Booking two days of ice rather than one is the first change to make for next season. Finding places for some older players is another.
The Prairie Fire Christmas holiday camp was a big success. All involved came away from the experience remembering how good it had been.
