Atlantic Attack announces coaching staff for inaugural National Ringette League season

July 4, 2011 - Moncton, New Brunswick - The Atlantic Attack of the National Ringette League (NRL) have proudly selected the coaching staff for their inaugural season beginning this fall. Saint-Antoine’s Julien Leger will assume the head coach responsibilities, while Dieppe’s Gilles Proulx and Fredricton’s Kathryn Pringle will round out the bench as assistant coaches.

Helene Beaulieu,Q.C., director of the Atlantic Attack, is very pleased with the caliber of coaches available in the province and feels this is the winning combination to represent the Atlantic Provinces in the NRL.

“With such incredible coaching talent across the province, choosing Atlantic Attack’s coaching staff was no easy feat,” says Jean Cormier, assistant director of Atlantic Attack. “However, we’re confident that we’ve landed the perfect mix of coaches to set the team up for a successful season.”

Head coach Leger has been involved with ringette since 1997 and began his coaching career at the youthful age of 18. For the last 13 seasons, he has led various age categories, such as the age 14 and under group along with age 18 and over team to provincial tournaments. Additionally, he has coached at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse and has an impressive record of winning nine out of 10 Atlantic Championships. Leger currently holds his Level 3 coaching certification and represented Team New Brunswick at five Canadian Ringette Championships. Upon learning he had been selected to the coaching staff, Leger stated, “I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead the Atlantic Attack in its premier season. I am confident that the coaching staff selected will be able to guide this new NRL team in achieving its goals.”

Proulx and Pringle back Leger on the Attack’s bench and both have successful track records with ringette in the province. Proulx has nine years experience coaching ringette and has consistently won medals at annual provincial tournaments. Proulx was born to coach as his talents behind the bench have also been witnessed in hockey, soccer, boxing and softball. Pringle is a well-known ringette competitor who competed in six Canadian Ringette Championships. Her passion for the game inspired her to begin coaching in 1994 and to date, she has successfully coached every level of ringette. Pringle was the assistant coach of the Atlantic Attack for two seasons prior to the team recently joining the NRL and has previously been named the Maritime Ringette League coach of the year for 2010 and 2011.

Try-outs for the Atlantic Attack team will begin August 27th. Locations and times will be released at a later date. Any ringette player over the age of 18 will be eligible to compete for a roster spot.

Tanya Bell, President of Ringette New Brunswick adds, “It is with great pleasure that Ringette New Brunswick is able to formally announce and welcome such a great energetic coaching staff. Our National Ringette League expansion team Atlantic Attack now has a fantastic start in our inaugural year and our members across New Brunswick are looking forward to seeing our great sport of ringette being played at such a high level of skill.”
