Les Cyclones de Québec – une équipe à part… entière!

The Quebec City Cyclones are a bit different from the other teams of the National Ringette League – it does not benefit from a pre-season draft or from a Belle AA team to replenish its future players. Notwithstanding it is located in a unique geographical situation (i.e. far from the other teams of the conference) and all of its players speak in Molière's language and partake in all the team’s fundamental functioning tasks, this team has nevertheless been well established since its inception. Even if the Cyclones have only had modest results in the beginning, these fierce fighters have proven year after year that they deserve to be part of the league. This has been demonstrated by the following highlights: they took part in three national championships (2006, 2009 and 2011), thanks to, among other things; two surprise victories (against Richmond Hill and Waterloo) in the play-offs.

It therefore must be acknowledged that one should never take the Cyclones for granted. Their character, their fighting spirit and their team cohesion make them a constant threat to other teams. When they jump on the ice, they do not have an inferiority complex. They always give their best, often at the expense of better-ranked teams (especially in the play-offs)!

As years went by, several new faces appeared in the Cyclones family. With the ever-united core of veterans at the helm (Angers, Arbour, Belleville, Chénard, Fleury-Roy, Gravel, Laflamme, Savoie, all of them ringette and competition enthusiasts), the acquisition of young players (Côté, Genest-Simard, Guérard, Lalonde, St-Laurent) proved to be an asset for the team performances. And finally, in order to complete the 2011-2012 roster, let us highlight the late entrance in the League of an "old rookie" (Massie) who nevertheless succeeded in raising by one notch the competition level (i.e. within the team for the best pranks!).

In agreement with the coaches (Guérard and Arbour), this season objective is to secure a spot at the NRL championship tournament. To reach it, the team will have to keep the same intensity level and the same confidence in the team and in each of its players. This level of play needs to be maintained for every game. Maybe the Cyclones are different from the other teams, but they are all without question proud representatives of the Quebec region in the National Ringette League!

Success belongs to everybody, but its merit is owed to teamwork (Franck Piccard).
