April 2, 2011 – The National Ringette League (NRL) today presented its annual awards, which recognize the performance of NRL athletes during regular season play. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony of the 2011 Canadian ringette championships, which have been taking place in Cambridge, Ontario.
Trophies were presented to Beth Hurren of the Richmond Hill Lightning for Most Valuable Player, Jackie Gaudet of Cambridge Turbos for Best Forward/Centre, Lindsay Burns of Prairie Fire for Best Defenseman, Meghan Pittaway of the Cambridge Turbos for Best Goaltender and Dani Holliday of Edmonton WAM! for Rookie of the Year. Whitby Wild head coach Ed Stepniak picked up the Coach of the Year award. Julie Blanchette of the Montreal Mission was the NRL Scoring Champion with 61 goals and 80 assists for a total of 141 points. Montreal Mission’s Catherine Cartier picked up the Goal Scoring Title with 86 goals in regular season play.
