Avalanche crack RATH's goose egg

The Avalanche have returned from their second road trip of the season, this time taking home two points and giving the Calgary Rath their first loss of the season.

Sat, Nov 7 at Calgary - It was the feisty rookie from Richmond, Amanda Pukalo who opened up the scoreboard for the Avalanche four minutes into the game, setting the tone for a fast paced match that saw plenty of action for both goaltenders. Calgary netted one in the first period, but went into the second down 3 - 1 after goals by captain Jennifer Wakefield (Fraser Valley) and rookie Dani Brassington (North Vancouver). True to Avalanche style, fans were treated to a close game as the Rath scored two goals, coming back to tie the game up at 3-3. The clock ticked down and the play intensified, forcing both Stacey McNichol and Shannon Anderson (Fraser Valley) to make back to back breakaway saves. The Avalanche took the victory when Jenn Wakefield took a pass from Pukalo and buried the ring in the back of the net with 1 second left in the game. Anderson - with 37 saves, Wakefield - with the game winning goal, and Calgary forward Victoria Russell were the three stars of the game.

Sat, Nov 7 at Calgary - Fraser Valley again came out strong against Calgary, quickly taking a 2 - 0 lead in the first period with goals by rookies Jamie Matusiak (Surrey White-Rock) and Amanda Pukalo (Richmond). This, however, was the last of their scoring as Calgary answered back with three goals leading 3 - 2  going into the second period. Calgary's Bobbi Mattson shut the door and the Rath took the game 5 - 2 with an empty netter securing the win four seconds left in the game.

Sun, Nov 8 at Calgary - The Avalanche came back ready for another fight for the remaining two points of the season, but came up short after a hard fought game that saw Jennifer Wakefield score all three goals for the Avalanche who came back after getting down 4 - 2 in the first to finish with a 4-3 loss.

The Avalanche look forward to their Nov 21 and 22 match up with the Saskatoon Wild at home in Langley. Fans will no doubt be treated to fantastic Avalanche ringette.
