Biography
For Meghan Pittaway, being on Team Canada was a dream come true. “Playing and representing my country in international competition is something I’ve dreamed about since I started playing. I am proud to say I play for the team and every day I push myself to work even harder to show the rest of the country they have nothing but the best representing them in Finland.”
Pittaway’s road to Team Canada has had its share of challenges. She tore her ACL twice when playing basketball, once in 2004 and again in 2005. At that point, her surgeon asked her what she wanted to accomplish through sport and when she replied to win gold at a world championship, he asked her how basketball contributed to that goal. It was at that point that she realized it didn’t and the only way she could achieve her goal was by focusing on a single sport. Five years later, Pittaway is realizing her goal.
When asked how ringette has contributed to her life, she replied, “Ringette has not only helped me build lifetime relationships with people that share the same passion as I do, it has also help me learn the true meaning behind grit and determination. Working toward a common goal, it has taught me how to deal with conflict as well as learn how to be organized, and prioritize events in my life.”
Meghan recently graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor of Physical Education and is currently in the firefighter training program at Conestoga College. She is also a goalie instructor at a ringette camp.
