Biography
Amanda Deveaux has had ringette fever for over 23 years. She just can’t shake off “the fastest game on ice.” It didn’t start that way. She was a reluctant 5-year-old, actually cried when her parents took her to her first ice time, but at the end of the hour, she had a change of heart and had to be dragged off the ice.
Ringette has created a treasure trove of medals and memories for Amanda as a testament to her strong defensive play and dedication to the sport. She played in the Pickering organization for many years before joining the NRL in 2006.
Since then, she’s accumulated National Gold in 2008 and 2009, National Silver in 2010 and 2011, and a World Club Championship Gold in 2008, all with the Turbos. However, she says her best ringette memory is from the Saskatoon Nationals in 2010. Her father died just a week before the tournament and she wasn’t sure she would be able to make it to Saskatoon. She gathered up her courage and decided to play. It was what her father would have wanted her to do. When she got to the rink at the first ice time and put on her jersey, it was like her Dad what with her. Her team had arranged for a patch that said “DAD” on it to be sewed on each jersey. The Turbos dedicated their tournament to Amanda’s father.
Amanda has a Kinesiology degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Nursing Degree from the University of Toronto. She is currently working as a Public Health Nurse.
