Biography
How has ringette changed since you began playing the sport? When I first started as a “bunny” (the names of all the age groups have changed since then...!), positions were identified by the colour of your stick: red for defense, blue for forward and white for center. Unknown to the ringette world were the “Ring Jet”, “Rocket”, “Defender”, nevertheless working on your wrist shot was quite the challenge without the new groove tips. Also, for a couple seasons they added a rule that when a player skated behind the net and crossed the goal line, they had to pass the ring out of that zone, sort of like a blue line from behind the net! Crazy how things have evolved for the advancement of a faster and better game for sure!
What is your "day job"? I am a physical education teacher in the french school division in Manitoba. I teach in a school with grades 7-12, all en français! Teaching is wonderful because everyday is different; there are new challenges and thus everyday, new victories. It is my goal to never stop learning and this is my hope for my students, to be students of and for life!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? I don’t think you can ever only follow one piece of advice, but I do believe that one thought can open a door to so many more and thus, it is important to be open to hearing them! Advice to consider: “Be the type of person you want to meet”, “Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out”, “It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not”, “Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behaviour does”.
