Biography
How old were you when you began playing ringette, and how did you get started?
My older sister was playing ringette, and at 4 years old, I was already hooked. From my first ice time at the age of 5, it became my passion. I have been a goaltender since my second year at the Novice level. My cousin, Colin Coleman, who was a goaltender in hockey, was my inspiration for choosing that position.
How do you prepare for a big game? Do you have any rituals/superstitions, or a pre-game meal that you like?
The night before a big game, I visualize myself doing what I love most; stopping the ring. I use different angles so that I can simulate my position at all times. On a game day I try to eat lightly three hours before playing time. Once arrived at the rink, we start our off-ice warm up and during that time I keep a close eye on the nets. When I get dressed I'm in the habit of putting my left side equipment on first. After all my rituals, I'm ready and pumped for the game!
When you are not playing ringette, what do you do?
When I'm not playing ringette, I'm a full time first year student at the Universite de Moncton in Kinesiology.
Do you have a quote that inspires you?
"If you aren’t going to go all the way, why go at all."–Joe Namath. This is my favorite quote, because it explains the truth about sports in a minimal amount of words. Everyone has a passion or a dream that they want to accomplish, why not do it?
What advice would you give to a younger player who dreams of playing in the NRL?
Shoot for the stars. Every young girl that dreams to become an NRL player should believe in themselves and their capabilities. Each and every one of them has the power to proceed with their biggest dream if they're not afraid to improve and to compete. Don't stop believing!
