What’s she doing with all those youngins?
Meredith Warner is a well-known member of the Prairie Fire. She was a mainstay of many of the Sixer teams coached by Wayne Hekle. Her picture was on the home page of the Manitoba Ringette Association web site for several years. Alberta ringette players also know her after her season spent playing for the Edmonton Ringette Club in 2003-2004.
Although Meredith is not the oldest member of the Prairie Fire, she has moved into a different world. While many members of the Fire are not far removed from Belle and are in school, Meredith no longer fits the mould.
A year ago, Meredith graduated from Red River College in Winnipeg as an xray technologist. She is now working at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She has yet to x-ray any of her teammates. Meredith has a house and she and Scott have dogs to look after. Meredith recently got engaged.
Despite some of the new challenges in her situation, Meredith has kept her ringette calendar full. Besides games and practices, Meredith has been a regular instructor in Hire the Fire sessions. Earlier in the season, she instructed in the South Winnipeg Sports Ringette camp. To fill the few gaps in her week, Meredith was an assistant coach with the APFG Junior Sixers - working with teammate Michelle Madziak and Prairie Fire coach Bob Madziak.
Similar to her teammates, Meredith’s goal is to play at the Canadian Ringette Championships in Charlottetown. For Meredith, ringette season doesn’t end until after Nationals so she is planning for the same conclusion this season.
