Finnish teams continue to dominate at world club championship

 Turku, Finland – Thursday, December 29, 2011 – Despite each posting wins over Sweden on day two of the 2011 world club championship, Richmond Hill Lightning and the Cambridge Turbos could not beats the Finns again today. The Lightning faced a 12-3 loss to Luvian Kiekko -82 (LuKi-82) and the Turbos were downed 5-2 by Raision Nuorisokiekko ry (RNK). Lapinlahden Luistin -89 (LL-89) are at the front of the Finnish pack, picking up a 9-3 win over LuKi-82 and a 9-6 win over RNK, which puts them at a 3-0 record and the only team undefeated. The Lightning and Turbos both stand at a 1-2 record going into the last day of round-robin play, while LuKi-82 and RNK are 2-1 and Sweden is 0-3.

In the first game of the day, Richmond Hill Lightning downed Sweden 8-2 with Elyssa Jasper (Ajax) posting a pair of goals and an assist and Linda Bjorling assisting on both goals for Sweden. When Cambridge met RNK, Siiri Kallionpaa and Susanna Tapani each picked up pairs and an assist, while Sharolyn Wouters (Port Perry) and Emily Bakker (Mitchell) claimed the goals for Cambridge. 
Marjukka Virta scored an impressive four goals and three assists for LL-89 in the 9-3 win over LuKi-82 and her teammate Anne Pohjola scored a hat trick and two assists. When Cambridge beat Sweden 7-2, Bakker, Wouters and Brittany Walden (Kitchener) all posted singles and two assists.
Kirsi Pukkila scored a hat trick and a pair of assists for LuKi-82 in their 12-3 win over Richmond Hill, while Beth Hurren (Bowmanville), Carling Munro (Holland Landing) and Megan Gibson (Richmond Hill) each picked up singles for the Lightning. In the last game of the day, LL-89 downed RNK 9-6 with Essi Vanhala and Tiina Mononen each scoring a pair of goals and an assist for LL-89.
All games are being held at Kupittaa Ice Rink in Turku, Finland and round robin games will run until Friday, December 30, with semi-final games being held on December 31. The finals will take place on January 1, with the bronze medal game taking place at 1:00pm EET and the gold medal game taking place at 4:00pm EET.
