National Ringette League announces annual award winners

March 31, 2008 – The National Ringette League (NRL) today presented its annual awards, which recognize the performance of NRL athletes during regular season play. The awards were presented at the NRL Annual General Meeting held in St. Albert, Alberta in conjunction with the inaugural NRL Championship tournament running all week as part of the 2008 Canadian Ringette Championships.

Trophies were presented to Jennifer Wakefield of the Cambridge Turbos for Most Valuable Player, Megan Todd of the Edmonton WAM! for Best Forward/Centre, Kassy Chhim of the Montreal Mission for Best Defenseman, Keely Brown of the Edmonton WAM!for Best Goaltender and Jennifer Hartley of the Edmonton Edge for Rookie of the Year. Manitoba Jets head coach Brian Timmerman picked up the Coach of the Year award; while Catherine Cartier of the Montreal Mission was the NRL Scoring Champion and also picked up the Powertek Goal Scoring Title. Cartier scored 111 goals and 44 assists for a total of 155 points in the regular season to capture both awards.
