Richmond Hill Lightning strike twice, book spot in ringette nationals

The Richmond Hill Lightning punched their ticket to Regina to compete in the National Ringette League championship after skating off with a pair of victories over the visiting Rive Sud Revolution to sweep their best-of-three quarter-final series Saturday.

The Lightning opened the series with a resounding 10-1 win at Tom Graham Arena.

Nursing a slim 3-1 lead after two periods, the Lightning erupted for seven unanswered goals in the final two frames to skate off with the victory.

Melissa Simone propelled the Lightning offence with three goals while Emily Bakker added a pair.

Lianne Davies, Jessica Jones, Paige Nosal, Brianna Thompson and Samantha Hodgson each added singles.

In the second game at Elvis Stojko Arena, the Lighting jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period and added five unanswered goals in the second to take a 7-0 advantage en route to wrapping up the series.

Bakker deposited four goals while Paige Nosal added three and Simone two.

Singles were credited to Jones, Thompson and Sydney Nosal.

With the victory, the Lightning will join the Ottawa Ice, Gloucester Devils, Waterloo Wildfire, Cambridge, Montreal, Edmonton and Calgary in Regina April 7 to 12.
