Ringette athletes shine at 2009 Red Bull Crashed Ice event

On January 23-24, 2009, Quebec City hosted the 2009 Red Bull Crashed Ice event. A combination of hockey, downhill skiing and boardercross, this year the event included the addition of a women’s division with a total of 20 female qualifiers from across Canada participating.

On Friday, January 23, the 20 women were narrowed down to 16, based on the fastest recorded times. Jenn Hartley (Edmonton WAM!), Marquise Brisebois (Rive Sud Revolution), Edith King (Montreal Mission) and Jennifer Carter (Gloucester Devils) all qualified and went on to participate in the finals on Saturday, January 24. The finals, which were cheered on by over 90,000 spectators, included four heats of four in the women’s division, with the first two athletes in each heat advancing to the next round until the final four were established. Both Hartley and Brisebois made it to the final four and placed second and third respectively. Kerri Anne Wallace from Calgary, Alberta was crowned the champion.
