It will be a showdown at high noon at the NRL Championship in Charlottetown when traditional powerhouses Montreal Mission and Edmonton WAM! will meet.
These same two clubs met up in the championship round in 2008, with Montreal scoring a 5-4 overtime victory. That game will likely not soon be forgotten by WAM!, having suffered from losing such a big loss in front of their hometown crowd. The Mission will want to build on their number two seed in the East and on last year’s big win.
The winner of the game will be a near shoe in for the championship round and while the loser will still be in contention, they will face a tougher road to the playoffs and a much tougher path once they get there.
In the game last year, Catherine Cartier led the scoring for the Mission with three points and she will be counted on to keep on producing against WAM! this time around. WAM! will also be looking to a three point scorer from last year in Jennifer Krochak. Both teams will be looking to their goalkeepers (Keely Brown for WAM! and Claudia Jette for Mission) to be solid between the pipes, as both goalies were peppered with shots in last year’s game with WAM! facing 43 to the Mission’s 32.
Look for a high scoring affair in this one. Both teams are likely to have a former NRL top goalie in between the pipes, but there will be just too much firepower on the ice to keep the goal scoring down.
