Calgary RATH Expects Big Things

Ice chips are flying in Calgary as the NRL team is gearing up for the 2009-2010 season. Tryouts were intense as most players from last year’s squad returned, several players with NRL experience relocated to Calgary and a newly eligible group from the 2009 National Champion Belles moved up.  The final roster has several familiar faces, including last year’s NRL defenseman of the year, Allison Cronin, and 2009 National Championship all-stars Victoria Russell, Kailee Dundas, Stephanie Zimmel and Alyssa Bosch. The RATH’s final line of defense is very solid, with Stacey McNichol and Bobbi Mattson, both contenders for a spot on Team Canada, in goal.  Last year’s assistant coach Cliff Lawrick takes the reins this year, and will be assisted by Trina Janssens and Jodi Jensen, who led the Calgary Belles to a National Championship gold medal last season.  The team is extremely excited about the upcoming season.  The players are looking forward to a very competitive Western Conference with a newly expanded 30 game schedule. Spectators can expect a fast, highly skilled and hard working bunch when taking in a Calgary game.  RATH opens the regular season in Edmonton and Leduc on October 25 against provincial rival Edmonton WAM!.  November 7th and 8th mark the first home action, a three game stand against the Fraser Valley Avalanche.
