The Canadian juniors brought home Gold with a 10-9 overtime victory over Finland. Proudly representing Canada from the NRL Richmond Hill Lightning was Shae-Lynn Reaman as an assistant captain, Chantal Gauthier, Erica Voss and Abby Richardson. The Richmond Hill Lightning NRL team and coaches are extremely proud of the hard work, dedication and accomplishments of our young athletes!
‘The experience of playing for Team Canada, is something that will always stay with me. When I first started playing ringette, all I wanted to do was play for Team Canada, so to be able to do that and win gold at the World Championships – it was truly a dream come true. It was even more special to be able to share the experience with some of the girls I have been playing with for a long time and it was nice to be able to celebrate all of our hard work finally paying off! I am very grateful to have shared the ice with 22 of the most talented and hardworking ringette athletes in Canada, and to have been coached by some of the finest. Last but not certainly not least, I think all of our supporters from home need a very big thank you; we were constantly receiving messages from home while we were in Finland, and even in overtime in the final game, we may have been in Finland but the Canadian fans still somehow we’re able to have the whole arena chanting “ Go Canada Go”. It may be cliché, but it honestly is hard to put this experience into words.’- Shae-Lynn
‘It was definitely an experience I will never forget. It was such an unforgettable moment when we scored the over time goal and we all rushed on the ice to celebrate. Everyone was so happy and it was a great feeling to be able to say that we won gold while representing our country.’- Chantal
‘There’s no way to describe being a member of the Junior National team other than a dream come true. Growing up I always looked up to players in Team Canada and to finally have reached that level and to be surrounded by such dedicated and hardworking coaches and athletes was really exciting. The gold medal is just a symbol of how much time and effort every member of the team put in all across the country.’- Erica
‘Playing for the U21 national junior team was an amazing experience on its own. However, getting to play for my country at worlds in Finland just made the experience that much more memorable. I loved every minute of it and am glad I got to spend it with all the people I did. The experience would not have been the same without the other athletes, coaches/staff and families. I am grateful for such an amazing opportunity that I will never forget!’- Abby
