Bryanna Kelly was named the Waterloo Wildfire team MVP over the weekend in Mitchell, Ontario.
The 23-year-old from Beamsville was also named the National Ringette League team’s top forward/centre after leading the Wildfire in scoring with 30 goals and 31 assists in 28 games.
Waterloo’s Katelyn Doerbecker was a unanimous decision as the team’s rookie of the year. The 19-year-old defender played in 26 games and had just four minutes in penalties. She finished with one goal and three assists as well.
Other award winners included Cathy VanOosterhout (top defensive player), Amanda Voisin (top goalie), Lauren Borland (most improved), Doug Miners (top coach) and Donna Jones (top volunteer).
The awards were determined by a vote of players and bench staff after the team wrapped up its eighth NRL season in March with a first-round playoff loss to the Montreal Mission, who made it to the NRL gold medal final against the LMRL Thunder.
The Wildfire finished the 2011-12 NRL regular season in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 14-16-0 record.
