Paced by the four consecutive goal performance of veteran co-captain, Shelly Kraemer, the National Ringette League’s Waterloo Wildfire defeated the Richmond Hill Lightning 6 – 5 Saturday evening in Waterloo. It was the second victory of the season for the Wildfire over Richmond Hill and moved them temporarily into sole possesion of second place in the Eastern Conference Southern Ontario Division. Co-captain, Lindsey Vivian, and rookie, Bryanna Kelly, counted the other Waterloo markers in the first period before Kraemer went to work.
The Wildfire were never headed in this one, leading 3 -1 at the intermission and extended their lead to 6 – 3 before two late goals (the last with just 13 seconds remaining) made the end result close. Waterloo goalie, Lisa Malanka was named the game’s third star, blocking 15 of 19 Lightning shots in the second period.
This coming weekend the Waterloo ladies travel to Montreal for 4 games — 2 Saturday and 2 Sunday — against the 4 teams in the Montreal area division.
They will return home for a neutral site game in Mitchell against the Cambridge Turbos November 29 at 7pm and will then face the Whitby Wild the following Saturday, December 6, at 7:30pm at Moses Springer Arena in Waterloo.
