Manitoba Ringette showcases NRL at MTS Centre

The Manitoba Ringette Association staged its annual Showcase game at the MTS Centre on Saturday December 13.

A crowd of 750 young ringette players and their parents were treated to an entertaining ringette game by the best ringette players in Manitoba. The spectators were also fed and had an opportunity to receive autographs from the Prairie Fire and Jets players. As part of the package, spectators also received a ticket to the AHL game between the Manitoba Moose and the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The ringette game was great for the spectators. Hard skating, team work and good shooting filled the 40 minutes of play. The game followed a familiar pattern. There was good end to end action and the Jets were opportunistic.

Jets jumped to a quick lead but Prairie Fire responded to tie the game at 2 – 2 before five minutes had elapsed. Jets responded to take a 3 – 2 lead to the break and stretched the lead to 5 -2 early in the second period. A spirited come back by Prairie Fire closed the gap to one but they couldn’t get the equalizer. A late goal by Erin Hogg and an empty netter sealed the deal.

Mandy Nordstrom notched three goals for Jets and Kayla Krentz added a pair. Ashley Lutz had three for the Fire.
