Ottawa Ice: Feral faces and a fresh start

It’s the start of a new season, and the winds of change have paid the Ottawa Ice team a visit. One of the most notable differences comes from behind the bench, as coaches Al Bateman and Jon Love announced their retirement over the course of the summer. They have both dedicated a remarkable amount of time, money and effort to the Ice and will be dearly missed by the players and other team members alike. From Al’s epic pre-game speeches to Jon’s traditional ring distribution before games and more, these two have left their mark on everyone they rubbed elbows with.

Jon & Al’s retirement announcements also come with the sad realization that their wives, Joanne and Annette, will also be absent from the rinks this season for the first time in what seems like forever. The amount of behind-the-scenes work that both these women did for the team was not taken for granted, and those stepping up to the job have very large shoes to fill. The contributions of both these couples to ringette, the NRL & the purple and teal will never be forgotten.

A quick look at the Ice roster indicates a few player changes as well. Newcomers Kali MacAdam, Sarah Cram, as well as Emma Wood now fill three full-time roster positions. Furthermore, Bryson Lamble has joined Ottawa’s bench staff for the upcoming campaign. We are delighted and very excited about these great additions to the feral family and look forward to everything coming up!

Lastly, our superstar manager Linda Lugg is back and in attendance at all teams events this year. We salute her for her energy, tenacity, and contagious enthusiasm!
