January 8, 2012 – The Atlantic Attack were defeated in three out of four games on an all-Ontario road swing this past weekend. The Attack faced the Richmond Hill Lightning on Saturday morning and dropped a 5-4 decision as the Lightning rallied with two goals in the second period for the victory. Later in the day, the Attack defeated the Waterloo Wildfire by a score of 5-4 as Joelle Proulx scored the go-ahead power play goal.
On Sunday, the Attack met up with the 2nd place team in the Eastern Conference; the Cambridge Turbos. At the end of the first period, the teams were tied 4-4. However, the more experienced Turbos scored three power play makers and one even strength goal in the second period to hand the Attack an 8-5 loss. The last match of the four game road trip resulted in absolute heart break for the Attack as the Whitby Wild scored the game winning goal with only 27 seconds remaining in the game to secure the two points by a score of 5-4.
The Atlantic Attack will continue to make their drive to secure an Eastern Conference playoff position. The top eight teams in the Eastern Conference will face off against one another in three game elimination series. The top four remaining continue on to the Canadian Ringette Championships in Burnaby, B.C. Next weekend, the Attack will play three games against the Rive-Sud Revolution in Beresford, NB and their last regular season home series will take place in Cocagne and Bouctouche February 4th and 5th.
