For the past few years Tillsonburg Ringette has invited the Cambridge Turbos to play a home game in front of their ringette players and families. This year was a great success as 180+ ringette “Twisters” and their families watched the Cambridge Turbos take on the Richmond Hill Lightning on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Tillsonburg Community Centre.
Tillsonburg’s own Taylor Campbell and Abby Welsh were highlights of the game collectively scoring 4 of the Turbos 9 goals. The Turbos defeated the Lightning 9 – 1.
“It is a privilege to have my home town of Tillsonburg ask myself and the Turbos to showcase the great sport of ringette” says Taylor Campbell. “I learned and fell in love with the game of ringette here. My family, friends, past teachers and old coaches all come out to watch. Its great being able to show them what I have accomplished in ringette. I feel as if coming back to my home town is a way of thanking them for their time and commitment they game to me over the years. The countless hours that they gave me both on and off the ice have paid off for me and I greatly appreciate every single minute.
After the game the Turbos met with some “Twisters” to sign ringette sticks and talk about the game that they all love. “Seeing the faces of the younger players, talking to them and signing autographs for them is great” says Taylor. “Being able to inspire the younger players is what I hope to achieve every year we come to Tillsonburg to play!”
Till next year Tillsonburg!
