Martine (Marty) Caissie didn’t learn to score big goals overnight. Throughout her childhood, she spent hours on a backyard rink after school with her grandfather in net while she perfected her craft. As a pre-teen Martine was always a leading scorer with both of her grandparents a constant in the crowd as she continued her rise to the elite levels of ringette. A few years back, her grandfather passed away but she continues to make her grandmother and her grandfather’s memory proud with her skill and determination on the ice.
In 2011-2012, Marty made her NRL debut with the Atlantic Attack. In 30 games, she posted 31 goals, 30 assists, and 61 points which led the Attack in scoring and earned her the nod for the NRL Rookie of the Year nomination. In her rookie year, she was also the recipient of the Attack Offensive Player of the Year award. In her second NRL season, Martine continues to build on what she started. In only 19 games, she has officially established herself as a threat to her opponents with 33 goals and 21 assists for 54 points which currently places her among the Top 15 of NRL scorers. In December, she won Gold at the U19 World Ringette Championship with Team Canada East.
Off the ice, Martine’s teammates tease her for always being nervous before games and for having an all Nicki Minaj playlist. More recently, you can find her on Twitter @mcaissie77 where she is known for dressing her dog, Allie, in canine costumes and posting photos. She is also the favorite player of Come Try Ringette Mascot, Samantha Belle.
For years to come, the popular #77 will continue to put fans on the edge of their seats, so please show your appreciation and give her your vote for the NRL Fan Choice award!
The NRL Fan Choice winner will be announced at the Canadian Ringette Championship this coming April in Fredericton, NB.
