The Waterloo Wildfire and Cambridge Turbos of the NRL’s Eastern Conference Southern Ontario Division met Saturday evening in a neutral site matchup in Mitchell. The Turbos came away with a 6-1 victory, counting three goals in just under five minutes late in the game to break open a tight 3 to 1 contest between the top two teams in the division.
The National Ringette League’s teams play numerous neutral site games at smaller centres throughout Canada to bring elite level ringette home to grass root, younger players. More than 300 fans attended Saturday evening’s game.
In this one, Cambridge led 2-0 at the intermission, but Mitchell native, Lindsey Vivian, brought the Wildfire to within one scoring the only Waterloo goal just 38 seconds into the second half. Sharolyn Wouters led the Turbos with a natural hat trick and got singles from Stacey Cunningham, Emily Bakkar and Jennifer Wakefield.
The Wildfire return home this Saturday evening when they meet the Whitby Wild at 7:30 pm at Moses Springer Arena.
