The Waterloo Wildfire travelled to Whitby Sat afternoon for a National Ringette League, Southern Ontario Division contest and came home with a 7-5 victory over the Wild.
Playing with just two lines, due to university exams, Waterloo stormed out to a 6-1 halftime lead and then watched Whitby, playing with a full bench of 18 players, slowly narrow the score as the second half progressed and fatigue began to set in.
Tara Gross led the Wildfire attack with 3 goals and co-captain, Amanda Somerville, added a pair. Katie Dawson and Shelagh Rouse each had singles while rookie Katie Truman chipped in with 3 assists.
Lisa Malanka in the Waterloo cage stopped 29 of 34 shots sent her way, the majority in the second half, for the victory.
The Wildfire rounds out it’s pre-Christmas schedule with a road game in Richmond Hill next Sunday and will renew home action in the new year with a Saturday January 9 game at RIM Optimist Arena vs the Gatineau Fusion at 7pm.
