Waterloo’s National Ringette League entry, the Wildfire, were edged 5-4 Saturday evening in Waterloo by their 3rd place Ontario Division rivals, the Richmond Hill Lightning. Already assured of a playoff spot the Wildfire came out flat and fell behind 2 to 0 before rallying for a 2-2 tie at half time. In the second period Richmond Hill pulled ahead 5-2 before Waterloo came back to make it 5-4 and threatened to send the game to a shootout before succumbing to the Lightning who are in a desperate fight for a playoff spot in the twelve team Eastern Conference.
Co-captains, Lindsey Vivian and Shelly Kraemer, each scored two goals for the Wildfire in a losing cause.
Sunday’s scheduled game in Cambridge against the Turbos was reduced, by mutual consent of the two twams, to an exhibition game when only one referee showed up for the game. It will be replayed in early March at a time mutually acceptable to the two teams.
This coming weekend both the Wildfire and the Turbos travel to the Ottawa/Gatineau region to play four games each against the four teams in the Capital Division. This will close out the regular season for both teams except for their rescheduled game in March.
