The Waterloo Wildfire finished off a perfect 5 and 0 (wins, losses) season series against the Whitby Wild with a 7 to 2 victory on Sunday in Whitby in National Ringette League Southern Ontario Division play.
Co-captain, Lindsey Vivian, led the way with two goals and two assists while Julie Mahy, Shelagh Rouse, Jodie Hannen, Amanda Somerville and Shelly Kraemer potted single goals. The win improved the Waterloo record to 16-7-2 (wins, losses, shootout losses) and with six games remaining the Wildfire are assured of hosting one of three best of three playoff series March 21 and 22 to determine the final three Eastern Conference berths in the NRL championships in Charlottetown in April. The three division winners, including the the Cambridge Turbos, automatically qualify for the championships.
The Wildfire’s final home game of the regular season is this Saturday at 7:30pm at Moses Springer Arena against the Richmond Hill Lightning. Sunday Waterloo goes to Cambridge to meet the Turbos at the Hespeler Arena at 12:30pm.
